Covid Vaccine (including Booster Covid Vaccines)
We are delighted to be part of the Covid 19 vaccine roll out for patients registered with The Byrne Family Practice.
We are currently administering Covid Boosters to all patients aged 16 years or older.
If you wish to avail of a booster vaccine, please contact our GP surgery as soon as possible to have your name added to our vaccine clinic list.
What is the time interval between the booster vaccine and the first round of Covid vaccines or active Covid infection:
You need to wait 3 months (at least 90 days) between your first round of Covid 19 vaccines and the booster dose.
You need to wait 3 months (at least 90 days) between active infection with Covid 19 and the booster dose. i.e. if you had Covid 19 since you were vaccinated, you should get your booster dose 3 months (at least 90 days) after your positive test result .
On the day of your vaccine:
We ask that you attend on your own, where possible, for your vaccine. Of course it is acceptable to bring a carer with you, should you require this.
Under your coat, please wear a short sleeved top (we need easy access to the deltoid muscle at the top of your arm, near the shoulder joint).
We will need your PPS number and mobile phone number in order to complete the necessary paperwork for the Covid 19 vaccine. A relative or carer’s phone number will be acceptable, once their consent has been obtained.
You should aim to set aside up to 10 minutes for the vaccine administration. The 15 minute observation period post vaccination has now been removed, unless you have previously had a severe allergic reaction to vaccines.
After your vaccination it is important that you continue to follow all public health advice to minimise the spread of Covid 19 (wear a face mask, practice social distancing etc.)
Please note that you cannot receive the Covid 19 vaccine if you are currently unwell. Please inform our staff when they contact you and your name will be added as a priority to a more appropriate clinic date for you.
Covid 19 Vaccine FAQs:
When will the vaccine be available?
We have been administering Covid vaccines in the GP Surgery since Wednesday 24/02/2021.
We are now predominantly administering booster vaccines to all patients aged over 16 years. Vaccine clinics are available every day. Please contact the practice to find out more information .
Which vaccine will I get?
The National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) has recommended that all booster vaccines are a single shot of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. You will be offered one of these even if you got a different COVID-19 vaccine previously.
To date The Byrne Family Practice has always received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
Can the vaccine be administered in my home?
GPs are still not allowed to administer the vaccine outside of the GP surgery setting. However, the National Ambulance Service can administer the vaccines in patients homes. Please contact our surgery if you require this service.
How long will it take for the booster to become effective:
It takes 7 days for a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose to work. After this time, the booster is very effective at preventing serious illness. However, after your vaccination it is important that you continue to follow all public health advice to minimise the spread of Covid 19 (wear a face mask, practice social distancing etc.) We do not know yet how long booster immunity will last.
Covid vaccine and Flu Vaccine:
It is safe to get your COVID-19 vaccine at the same time as the flu vaccine or any other vaccines you may need.
Can I choose an alternate date or time for my vaccine?
If your vaccine date or time does not suit you, or your carers, please contact the surgery to re-schedule as soon as possible.
How much is the Covid 19 vaccine and the booster vaccine?
The vaccine is free of charge to all patients registered in the practice. You must provide us with your PPS number and a contact mobile phone number.
